Hi there,

I tried Tramadol (Ultram), 50mg to help, it honestly didn't do me much good.
Tramadol is another one you really don't want to take.
I'll give you a link here, I know several people who have had bad withdrawal coming off of it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tramadol

It's a Wiki link, but it has some info in there.

Many say Tramadol isn't addictive, I beg to differ, I think it can be.

I have done this before...yes, it helps if you take alot of it...like 3 or 4 of them instead of 1 or 2!  It doesn't get rid of the sweaty stuff but I was prescribed vics along with those for YEARS and when I ran out of the vics I went to those...
Just be careful bc they ARE addicting too!  And the wd is much like opiate wds.  However, you can start a heavy dose of them and start tapering off of them after like a week...did it a million times!
You will need something to help u sleep...it just helps with that "groggy" feeling and the lack of energy stuff.  Caffeine and those are alot like vics I have found.
Hope this helps!

Skmco

Thanks for answering...I have been using them as a buffer...I get Ultram extended release & I chew them in the morning & kind of suck one during the day.  I also have taken to drinking Red Bull & that helps with no energy but I feel like I am going to hurt my heart if I keep this up.

This while I am still tapering...

Today I said the heck with the taper & took the remaining vicodins...honestly, not to get high, just to get them out of my reach!  Tomorrow I will be without any pills.  I can't get any until 12/30/09 at the earliest.  I am so tired of fighting this battle & I was starting to cheat when I got to 7 a day so I just want out & OFF the damn pills.

I think I am gonna need all you guys for emotional support so get ready....

Robyn,

I am ready and waiting to help you through this! I knew I could never taper because the temptation was just too strong. So that was why I had to go cold turkey. We can do this together!!! Cheesy I'm here for you 24 hrs a day!

the sad score on tramadol (ultram) is that it is synthetic junk ... and not even high-grade, like hydromorphone.

the deal is simple, it is a low-grade opioid that binds to the mu-opioid receptor (like vicodin), but that also has a funny binding affinity for the 5-HT2,3 group ... and that latter part is the kicker. most folks, if they down 100 - 200mgs of tramadol will get a decent break from their withdrawal, but at the unpleasant risk of getting a seizure on account of that other binding affinity.

i remember a few years back, a friend of mine -- a lightweight girl -- was downing tramadol by the handful. one day, after a regular dose (though probably more than usual), she had a fit. i mean, one of those fall-down-on-the-floor-shaking fits .... she was fine when they pumped her in the ER, but it wasn't a good scene any way you look at it.

i'm not going to say one way or the other, but i think it is important that you know the score on tramadol. it has a nasty downside that, if not mitigated by an anti-convulsant (e.g., clonazepam, or other benzo), can have very undesirable repercussions.

anyhow, good luck with that and all.
